Found this on the MythTV documentation, it relates to recording from outside sources using a sound 
card:

NOTE: Plugging a Line-level device into the Mic input is not recommended. Line-level devices have 
higher voltages and can damage the soundcard. In addition, even if it doesn't break your card, you 
will be getting Mono sound.
