There's a project called "mkcdrec" that will create a bootable CD and as many 
CD's as it takes to back up your system.  Many options, including creating 
local/remote ISO images, using local/remote space for the temporary files, 
and specificly cloning one disk to another without it having to be an 
identical partition.  I believe DVD support is in alpha or beta stage.
