First off. I track job opportunities in the area for my students and I would say about 30% of the ones posted have NO applicants. Zero. We have employers calling us asking what's wrong with the position. The problem is that everyone thinks that everyone else is applying so they don't bother. The second thing is that I have found alot of qualified people who say they can't find jobs just don't have the job seeking skills necessary. This is not a slam on anyone on the list. In my department (Computer Technology) we have a 98% placement rate. Every student who wants a job gets one. These are people with 0 experience. Just a 2 year degree. Yes, some of the jobs are Best Buy tech support but I also have students who are WAN engineers at DST, IT managers for Sertoma or WAN engineers for Shook Hardy and Bacon. It's all about your attitude. Third. I still, in this economy, get two or three offers a month to leave my current position for same or better benefits and pay. The jobs are out there.
