AMEN -----Original Message----- From: owner-kclug@marauder.illiana.net [mailto:owner-kclug@marauder.illiana.net] On Behalf Of Jeffrey A. McCright Sent: Monday, May 26, 2003 11:48 PM To: kclug@kclug.org Subject: Give me a break! I have been saving messages from the KCLUG Mail list since August of 2001, and I cannot believe the topics brought to this list and the amount of mail traffic generated from such topics. I cannot believe the juvenile posts and responses placed in this mail list. The issue of top posting or html messages, or the blasting of Mac and Windows users just makes me sick! I joined the KCLUG to learn more about Linux and to seek help when I needed it and to offer it when I was able. I attended meetings to meet those who offered help and to try to offer my help to new members or those just looking to find out more about Linux. However, the past year and a half has been an eye opener for me. For years, I have posted requests for help. the past year and a half, my requests for help have been met with monologues that have nothing to do with my needs. Eventually I get a response from one or two, usually off the list mailed directly to my e-mail address with some helpful advise or instructions. To those members I say thank you for your help! I have watched others get flamed for using hardware or operating systems deemed "unacceptable" by closed minded, opinionated people! I have seen members of this list deliberately misconstrue other members' posts only to post some oblique, self-serving political view that they support because of some sort of twisted need to force their view on others. I top post! I send text messages! I use Windows and Linux! I run Macintosh, Sun, and PC hardware. I provide support to client's who have chosen a hardware or software solutions that meets their needs. Who am I to try to force my views upon them??? Who are you to force your opinions on me???? New members to the list that come to the KCLUG watch our actions, our responses, our openness and willingness to help. When we argue pointless issues about top posting, spam, html messages, Mac owners, and Windows users, (to name just the tip of the iceberg) we push these people away. Who wants to join an organization that berates their membership because they "top post". I do not need to fill my inbox with crap! I would rather receive the Spam I get from unknown posters trying to sell me a larger penis or some stupid porn site membership than to receive the crap posted here on this mail list from fellow members of a group I belong to. Others associate me with those I find offensive. I do not want to be associated with you. I haven't invited friends to our meetings in the past year and a half because I fear what will be said to them because of their usage of Windows. Sad, isn't it? Posts show up from time to time on this list with words I find objectionable. No one comments about that issue, but if I top post, "Katie bar the door!" Jeffrey A.
