For most modules, the main step is to place an alias for the module 
in /etc/modules.conf.  See man modules.conf for more info on this.

I need more coffee - can't recall whether all modules in modules.conf will be 
loaded, or whether this simply makes them available to scripts.

You may need to call depmod to resolve module dependencies, and use modprobe to 
actually load the module.
