And another good place to visit is the WW I monument at Penn. Valley park (Main St and W. 29th St.) It has lots of great architecture and cool stairs. (I have a thing for stairs, esp. when I'm on my bike :>) The monument was recently renovated and is the only WW I monument in the nation. Loose Park is an excellent place to take the family or spend time with that "special someone". Loose Park has a nice pond, a rose garden, and a modest amount of trees mixed into a meadow. It's really on of the best (IMHO) inner-city parks KC has to offer. Loose is located @ 54th and Wornall Rd, which becomes Broadway on the North side of the Plaza. BTW, JC Nichols Rd is "joins/becomes" @ 43rd St. Broadway, and 47th St is aka "someone_or_other Cleaver the _Roman_Numeral_" BLVD which is also "Brush Creek". lol The ONLY place the streets become confusing in KC is around the Plaza. While near the Plaza check out the Nelson-Atkins' Museum of Art (E. 47th and Oak). They have an excellent Oriental exhibit on the upper floors. While at the Nelson, check out South Mooreland Park. Small, quaint, peaceful. This is also where the Shakespeare in the Park is held. Near South Mooreland and across the street from the Nelson is the frank Atheist park. hahahah It's actually called the 'Frank A. Theis' but I have an odd sense of humour. Here's a point of reference map for the Plaza area: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&addtohistory=&address=4700+J +C+Nichols+Pkwy&city=kansas+city&state=mo&zipcode=64111&homesubmit=Get+Map Other things to keeping in mind: KCMO - The rule of thumb is numbered streets run East-West, named streets North-South. KCK (KS) - Numbered roads are AVENUES. Don't quote me on that though, I avoid KCK. Main Street is the 'Zero' Line for East/West Numbers. ie: 319 W. 39 St is three blocks west of Main while downtown in the zero point for N/S. If you ride bike at all, let me know. I know of some good single track in the area and several paved trails. Have fun exploring, Michienne ps: Check out the cool fountain and park @ 4700 Main St. pps: Like oriental food?
