About a year ago I found a nice little Windowz program that would scan a
subnet and display the smb shares.  Once I made it in the first system I
started feeling guilty so I created a text file called hacked.txt and
put it on their desktop.  This file explained their security problem and
included instructions on how to fix it.  

You should let them know but your freedom is much more important than
those careless admins jobs.
