Geez, I just figured out the problem.  I forgot to SAVE the changes to 
the modules.conf file!

Now cdrecord reports the proper (I think!) info for the unit and 
X_CD_Roast doesn't fuss at me.  Guess I will have to burn one to see if 
it works.

Thanks for the help!  I think I was trying to make it more difficult 
than it should be and cried for help before I double checked things!
