I just installed the 2.2r3 (potato) version of Debian. I included the X system with the install, and I can do a startx and have the GUI interface start up. If I add one of the window mgrs. to the command line, I get that interface. I also added an apt source to my /etc/apt/sources.list file to get the newest version of KDE. (apt-get install task-kde) All appeared to download fine, but I can't seem to get KDE to start. I've tried startx kde, etc, but nothing works. I've tried to start gnome as well, and when I do an exec gnome-session, I get the message "Gtk WARNING **cannont open display". I try to do a kdeinit, and the message is "$DISPLAY not set". I try to set the display to 0:0, and then export it, and that's not a valid value. Plus, it still won't allow me to start KDE. I'm not a script writer, so I have difficulty even reading ones that are loaded, although I've tried! I'd like to be able to get into the desktop mgrs. I've installed. kdm and gdm both return "unknown commandderrors. Anyone got any ideas? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
