I can't say about your situation, but I can say that entry level jobs are practically non-existent. At my last interview, I was told that here were over 100 qualified applications for an entry level job that didn't pay all that well. I would move in an instant if I thought the job market was appreciably different somewhere else. So far, I haven't found that place. One thing that I am sure of is that there is no shortage of programmers in the United States. There is a shortage of programmers with 2 - 5 years experience but that is because nobody will hire entry level graduates. They have "extended" my contract indefinitely until they can determine whether they have the money in the budget to take me and the other contractors perm. I have only been here 2 months so far (3 month contract). I even moved here from CA because I thought the company would provide better job security. They may still take me perm but I am not counting my chickens. My question is about the local job market. Is it really tough? I have about 4 years of Unix Sys Admin experience in a wide range of platforms. May have to move again if it is really bad. Just getting sick of the whole pink slip thing.
