Actually, running a mailing list without rules causes more troubles than
with some structure and organization.   Right now it doesn't seem like a
big deal (because we don't have that much traffic) but without proper
guidance now, we face many hurdles down the road.  What's to say that with
?? messages a day and ??? users on the system, that they aren't going to be
pissed off when someone does need to step in and do something about things.
 It's better to keep things in check and have policies in place rather than
trying to close the gate once the cows have left the farm.  (And been
branded by that fire-weilding Tux.)  

As of now we have nothing to say what can or can't be done on the list.
How many people on here have moderated a high-traffic list with lots of
members?   I can show you lots of examples of what happens when you don't
give a list the proper care and attention.   I'm not saying we need topic
cops, but having some rules and law/order is a good thing even if things
are run lax for now.  

Some suggestions:

1) No profanity
2) On topic with Linux related topics
3) No blatant spams/solicitations
4) No flaming
5) No replies to non-topic or flames

There are lots of others, but this is what comes to mind right now.
