Hi everyone, my name is Steve Doerr and I've been on the mailing list for a few months now and would like to get more involved with the KCLug. I saw a couple of weeks ago some discussion about meeting places and noticed UMKC came up. I am a UMKC alum (MSA '91) and have called them about getting a classroom w/ internet (basically a phone jack) access for meetings. It's pretty central and close to downtown, and I thought lighting and space might be better than the downtown library. I have yet to hear what they have available, but they do allow alumni to use their facilities. Would anyone be interested in meeting there if available and if they have internet access? Let me know and I'll see what I could do. About me, I am a CPA and Debian user (my home desktop) and have been working w/ finance/acctg. systems since 1990. Right now, I am playing w/ a open source client/server acctg./ERP package out of Germany called Linux-Kontor. It aspires to be a SAP/Peoplesoft/JD Edwards type of program. I've got to sort out some things about running it on a local host system and postgreSQL, since it's designed for a network and the Adabas D database, but I'd like to show some people what's going on in non-proprietary business systems on Linux. I look forward to meeting some of you and let me know if you're interested in getting a classroom at UMKC. Thanks, Steve
