I have never had luck with any version of Nautilus. My suggestion is two
fold:
Switch to Debian (stable or testing) and use the KDE file browser - it
is MUCH more stable and better featured to boot. Frankly the file
browser is the most important part of the desktop and THE reason to use KDE.
It is possible to use the KDE file browser in other desktops (the
default desktop in the Libranet dist of Debian has all file browsers
available from the task bar). For a while I ran Gnome desktop with the
KDE file browser. (I now use the KDE desktop because I like the kweather
applet).
Also, not only is the KDE file browser better than Nautilus, it is has
better features than M$. Of course, there is a small learning curve
involved, but the preview features and other details are well worth your
time.
