There was a recent /. article about a new Linux/x86 Assembly book. They
put forth the argument that knowing Assembly language gives a basic
foundation to computers that high level languages do not give.

Assembly was the second language I learned (after gwbasic). I started
out with the Pink Shirt book. (which I still own) I've also got a PPC
assembly book if anyone's interested.
