The last job I applied for had 1,500 applicants ...at last count.

I hear HR people love this climate as it gives them better pickings and
more "reasonable" negotiating power.  Contract work at this time seems to
be strong as ever.  Might not be a bad time to get that business license 
and start my own shop...
