Subject: Linux's HD.C -- good idea to modify to allow >16h?
Date: 13 Sep 1993 00:42:43 GMT

Hello, Everyone!

I'm having a *very* annoying problem. I'm rather tired of having to search for
& boot off of a floppy every time I want to start Linux. (My hard drive
geometry disallows LILO, and nothing better has come along, including bootlin).
When I set my translation (ESDI ctrllr) to full translation, I can only get one
option: 64 heads. HD.C chokes on this. Someone a while back said that I ought
to just modify HD.C to recognize >16h. Okay -- but will it work? I rather
dislike the idea of backing up 400mb of DOS partitions to reformat the drive
and finding that it don't work. :-(

Any comments?
