Subject: A fast TAR archiver for DOS?

I frequently need to do FTP's from the net, to a mainframe, to a local PC,
then copy floppies, then dump the files to my Linux machine at home (chore).

Currently I'm using the TAR supplied with PAX 2.0 under MS-DOS, to create the
floppies. PAX seems kind of slow, especially compared to the TAR in the
Linux SLS 1.02 distribution. Is there anything faster?
