If you're going to be developing new applications, I would consider using
the Tk widget set. You get a free, motif-like widget set and a complete
scripting language to boot. The binaries and source diffs are available at
sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux/development, and a lot of sample code can be
found at sunsite.unc.edu:pub/languages/tcl. I highly recommend it!
