Subject: Can't create a filesystem with mke2fs
Date: 29 May 1993 13:22:05 -0400

I have SLS 1.02 and after making a 120 mb partition for linux, I verify
it and it says 35 unallocated sectors. I go on and type
mke2fs -c /dev/hda2 123894 and it says after a few lines

HD: read_intr: status = 0x59
HD: read_intr: error = 0x40 (or 0x01 or 0x10)

and it keeps syaing this over and over until after a few screens it says

HD-controller reset

        or

harddisk I/O error
dev 0302, sector 247800 ( plus or minus about 200 sectors. )

and then goes back to doing what it did again and again. After a while I have
to break out of it.

My IDE hard drive has 12 heads 36 sectors per and 954 cylinders.

Thanks in advance for any help.
