if you just want to use SysV semiphores for gating, you can do it with a
few simple one line macros. This is true for Dykstra (sp?) style
semiphores, too. That way you only have to understand them once (when
you write the macros) to use them.

  There are a set of macros in the shbundle program I posted to c.s.unix
some years ago, which do just this. I have made them a bit spiffier, and
will be submitting the latest version with SysV.4 and Linux compliance
in the near future.

  Actually I'm going to submit a ton of stuff as my going away present
to the net, to the alt, unix, misc, and X sources groups. I just need a
few days to package it, and haven't had free time in about 18 days now.
