Writing a word-processor engine for Linux (&therefore *ix) is a great idea.
Then various character-, X- or whatever GUIs could be attached to it, as well
as exiting programs, such as perl and emacs.
How about a group effort to define the specs for such an engine? Once the
specs got juicy (yet doable) enough, *someone* (or more) will volunteer to
give it a (w)hack.
As the WP thread indicates, there are a GAZILLION of us out there who only
boot DOS to run WPW, WFW, or AMI Pro. Maybe we could divide and conquer the
WP issue by defining a couple of fireproof APIs for the WP engine.
Then various libraries could be developed to implement the APIs, so noone
is locked into a single solution.
Any suggestions???
