Yeah, I know the two aren't related. :-)

After a successfull SLS 1.02 install, I find two things that I need
answers for:

Console messages under X

I can type in my xterms and all that, but I can't get console output
while in X. I have /dev/console linked to tty0, which is device 4,0.
I have tried xconsole, xterm -C, and cmdtool (console) to no avail.
At least one of them, xconsole, I believe, causes a message to
appear on the VC from which I start X about "Attempt to redirect
console to tty failed TTYmumble.. (tty package)" or something like that.

UUgetty and bi-direction serial comm

The second thing is bi-directional serial I/O using a com1 port and a
modem. I have a Telebit locked at 38400 on the port, set for HW flow
control, and a gettydefs entry with CRTSCTS and HUPCL in it for that baudrate.

I can dial out fine and make connections and transfer files, etc.,
using the cua0 device. I have also brought up a uugetty for ttyS0 and
have received calls. But with that uugetty up, uucico and cu report
that the port is in use. Is this a permissions problem? Locking?
Should /dev/ttyS0 be owned by uucp? The inittab line is "uugetty -h
-t 60 ttyS0 38400". (I think -- I'm posting this with Xenix booted so
I can't see it.)

I must be just THAT close to having it right -- and then I can toast
the Xenix partitions. My next posting would be from Linux! Hahahahaha!

In an effort to contribute to c.o.l, I will post my working Taylor
config files, and the story of getting smail and c-news working. :-)

I'm sure there is a README that I have missed, but I have combed the
FAQ.

Thanks in advance.
