I have snd-kit etc. running just fine with 99p9 and a SB 2.0(8-bit).
I used virgin(ie., un-tarred, non-patched hierarchy) code, and added the
necessary files to kernel/chr_drv/sound(or whatever).
It was a simple matter of make config, selecting the full driver kit, and then
doing the requisite make dep; make zImage.
You might want to just grab the 99p9 source(the full 600-700k) tar.z file from
an FTP site and work from there. I occasionally made some dumb-ass manoeuvers
that tended to mung mine when I went from 99=>1=>2=>3=>4=>5=>6 so I just
started grabbing the full kit every time.
If you have any problems, I could theoretically recompile my kit on my machine
with your defaults, and mail you a kernel. This would be a last resort as I
have an LD UUCP/mail/news feed.
