Subject: X / Logitech mouse problem - please help!
Date: Fri, 21 May 1993 02:20:15 GMT

I'm running Linux 0.99pl6 SLS 1.00 on a 386/33 w/ 4mb RAM 4.5mb swap...

Whenever I try to run X with startx, it (as I assume it should) gives me a
cross-hatch screen, which then turns solid blue, then I get the top half
of a CMDTOOL and some other window. I cannot type anything (it beeps). I
am forced to ctrl-alt-bksp to kill X and get out. My mouse is EXTREMELY
EXTREMEMLY EXTREMELY lethargic in its response. I moved the mouse approx
50 feet on a flat surface and the cursor jumped a _whole inch_ on screen
(after 5min or so). I have a Logitech Mouseman Cordless on /dev/mouse
which SLS linked to /dev/ttyS1 (correct). The mouse works fine in
DOS/Windoze, btw. Another interesting wrinkle: If I startx with a
program as a parameter (say, xterm), it loads xterm and the other two
windows up, plus gives me a menu of some sort in the lower right which I
can't see since it's almost all the way off the screen. I can, however,
move the scroll bar up/down with the cursor keys. Somehow once I managed
to kill xterm and CMDTOOL became active and I could load Spider up
amazingly enough, but with no mouse I had to quit as normal w/ c-a-b..
Here are all the messages on VT1 as I assume you'll need to help me:

I would like to get that annoying message at the end taken care of, but
the mouse comes first.. I have no idea why these settings aren't working.
The driver for DOS/Windoze is set up at 1200 on COM2, Logitech Serial
Mouse. X is set up the same (supposedly). Do I need to find a updated
driver or try out another driver that came with the release (ie MS
maybe?), or is my mouse not compatible (I doubt it)?

Oh, one more thing.. The display is 1024x512 (virtual 1024x1024). Is
there any way to make the actual display 1024x768?

Please, no RTFM's... There is no FM to R. I've looked for weeks.
