Subject: Help!!! I can no long login!
Date: Fri, 14 May 1993 04:12:39 GMT

I am new to Linux. I installed Linux recenctly. Everything was
fine until I recompiled the kernel. After installing the compiled
kernel, I booted my machine. The machine booted successfuly and
login-prompt came up. When I tried to login, it gave the message:

"Unable to change tty '/dev/tty1' for user 'xxx'"

The login promot came up again. If I try to login second time,

It gives me the message:

"No utmp entry. You must exec 'login' from the lowest
    level 'sh' ".

It happens no matter I tried to login from any available console,
and no matter I tried to login as root or any other id.

If I boot with my floppy drive which has old Image, everything
will be fine.

Could someone on the net tells me what is wrong with my set-up
or configuration?

Thanks a lot.
