Hello everyone,
As a newbie to linux please excuse my ignorant questions -
I have Linux SLS release 1.01 on my 386, with an AST fourport card connected in
low i/o address 0x1a0 etc... I rebuilt the kernel adding in the AST device
drivers and also AUTO_IRQ. I then proceeded to add the character devices in
/dev/ttys8 4 72 etc...SO far so good.
Then added an entry into inittab to allow a getty to operate on the terminal
(a FREEDOM200/tvi950/adm31 compatible), restarted in init state 6 and hunky
dorey - Up comes the login prompt....
HOWEVER, as soon as I type a username and hit enter, no password prompt appears
and by the looks of it, the process just sleeps until I kill it, when init
promptly forks a new getty.
I have also added entries into securetty and ttys and ttytype (initially used
dumb ttys8, but hacked out from a SCO Unix termcap the entries for the above
mentioned terminal's emulation cabability) and changed it to tvi950 ttys8...
My question is - Has anyone else encountered this kind of hanging with login on
serial terminals before ? (BTW - My virtual terms and xterms work fine) and is
there a fix !!!!

Darren Gilchrist

Ps: Is slip available in SLS1.02 ?
