Geoff, you may interested to know that I am running Linux on a Olivetti
Laptop model D33 system which is a 386DX/33 with 4Mb and a 60 Mb hard
disk.
I have installed Linux from the MCC distribution with other elements
from the SLS dist. Performance on normal activities like compilation etc
seems acceptable given the speed and the processor. It's not like the
486DX/50 that I normally use but then it didn't cost as much as a 486
laptop would.
It will even run X-windows in mono mode -- but it is
*extraordinarily slow* in X. I only really did it to try it out. X won't
recognise the built-in mousepad thingummy though.
I bought the laptop from Diamond in Tottenham Court Road for UKP 762.
