Subject: SLS ghostscript needs X?
Date: Sat, 8 May 1993 06:43:05 GMT

I'm a relative Linux newbie, having only had it installed for a couple of
days now.

In a previous life, I ran 386BSD, but unfortunately the disk partition died,
and for a number of reasons (which I won't get into now) decided to give
Linux a try.

I noticed (among other things) that SLS ghostscript seems to require X. I
don't happen to have enough disk space to install X. (Actually, when starting
ghostscript, it complains about a missing X library; that might not mean that
a full X is required?).

On 386BSD, I just had a version of ghostscript that I compiled to work with
the 24 pin dot maitrix printer, and no X interface was needed. However,
it might be a good thing to get a version of ghostscript that would work
with the vgalib so I could preview postscript on the screen before submitting
it to the printer.

Should I try to simply recompile ghostscript and tell it that I don't have
X?
