Subject: lpr doesn't seem to work with local printer
Date: 7 May 1993 13:29:14 GMT

I've just added a local postscript printer to the back of my linux
machine; previously I've used a remote printer and everything is fine.

However now if I create a test file with the line showpage in it

        cat test.prt >/dev/lp1

works but

        lpr -Plp1 test.prt

gives me a postscript error from the printer, therefore I suspect that
I've not got the printcap entry wrong, but I can't think how to screw
that up, the relevant line is
        lp1:lp=/dev/lp1:sd=/usr/spool/lp1

can any one help me out? email or post

Ian
