I recently (last night) installed the SLS 1.02 release - it's excellent. In
only one night I managed to get everything working, though not fine-tuned yet.
Anyway, I ran into two problems:
1. I'm using OS/2 2.0's Boot Manager, and tried the LILO line in the FAQ
/etc/lilo/lilo -c -b /dev/hda2 -v -v /Image
LILO says it's ignoring the -boot and -compact options, and then
shows the usage information. I _do_ have a recent (I recompiled the
kernel) & working /Image (it works fine booting from floppy). Is
there some problem with this command, or what? I'd like to do away
with the boot disk.
2. I actually managed to get X386 running (the color server), after
letting the server find clock values. First of all, I have the
following hardware configuration:
G2K 4DX-33V (VESA local bus)
ATI GUP VLB w/1MB VRAM
CrystalScan 1572FS (15" MAG repackage)
I've seen people mention that the clock lines generated by the server
are incorrect. I'm just using those values, along with the VESA std.
monitor values from the modeDB file. As it is, X seems to work fine
(stable display, etc), except the display is shifted about an inch
and a half to the right (not a problem - the monitor has centering
controls). This doesn't seem quite right, and since I don't want to
destroy my monitor, what should I do? I didn't see any entries for
the GUP or the 1572FS in the newest (same as SLS's version) modeDB
file from export.lcs.mit.edu.
Thanks for any help. Please email your response. If no one has provided this
modeDB information to Dave W. (sorry, forgot the last name), who I think
maintains the modeDB file, I'll send him the info myself.
