        Here's another thing to try to get rid of these SCSI time out
problems - slow the bus clock. You may be able to do this through the
advance CMOS setup (my AMI bios lets me do this). An indication that this
may be needed is if you don't see the problem running at 16Mhz. Unfortunately,
I am not qualified to explain why this works for my machine, but I suspect it
has something to do with bus-mastering, DMA, and LINUX (which pushes
hardware to its limits :).
