Subject: Adaptec 1542C trouble

Hello Netland,

I just tried to install linux 0.98 pl5-42 on my upgraded system:

486/66, 16 MB ram
Adaptec 1542C with 1 GB Fujitsu disk, Streamer, Syquest 88 MB and CDrom

Following problems occured:

booting the first floppy: no problem, but the system tells, that there is
an SCSI controller with NO! devices connected to
it. (I have only the SCSI disk therefore I cannot
                          switch to another one...)
mounting the second floppy with the root filesystem (miniroot) also no
problem, but the fdisk program does not find any of the devices
/dev/hda or /dev/sda.
Following SCSI IDs are set:
Fujitsu disk: ID 0
Syquest 88MB: 1
Wangtek 150MB: 2
CDrom NEC Multispin 84: 3
The whole system works fine with DOS 5.0 and from my job I am also responsible
for administrating a network of 5 Sun workstations so the basics I should know
here...
Another remark which may point to the problem: when booting DOS again, the
Adaptec controller (which is completely configured by software) has lost
its setup...

Flames to /dev/null if this is maybe a FAQ. But anyway any help on this item
is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Best regards
