the READ.ME that comes with ka9q is supposed to contain instructions
for setup. Unfortunately I'm having a bit of trouble deciphering your
problem report. Normally you'd use kermit to establish the initial
connection, typing the necessary commands to the system on the other
end. Once slip is enabled, exit from kermit and start net (ka9q).
The configuration commands to net are in startup.net. That's the
equivalent of NCSA's config.tel. READ.ME has an example startup.net,
with an explanation. Kermit has good script facilities, so once
things work, you can write a script to do the initial connect
automatically. (Actually, ka9q itself has some dialup scripting
capability, but it's not as flexible as kermit's, so I generally
recommend using kermit.)
