I wrote asking about ELVIS's problems:
!Hi there! I have two questions about Elvis I run:
!ELVIS 1.6, by Steve Kirkendall (27 April 1992)
!in a Linux box, within xterms in X.
!
!0) Sometimes I push something that causes Elvis to lock,
! until I press 'y' (or "Y"?). What is this? Is this
! a bug or a feature? :-)
!
!1) I once pushed some combination of mouse and/or key and a
! menu showed up (not in ASCII, but in a small X window).
! It went away pretty quick when I pushed a key or something,
! but I would swear it was not one of the xterm menus
! (ctrl-mouse_buttons). I don't remember exactly what it was in
! it, but I seem to recall it was something like an editor
! type (cut & paste) menu. Any idea anyone if this has to do
! with elvis?
These don't seem quite known features of ELVIS. Let me just share
what I found out. Thanks to all that responded.
If you push 'v' in elvis, then you can select text. If you press '\'
now, then you have a menu of cut/paste/yank/reformat, etc.
I have to say that the reformat option to reformat paragraphs is JUST
what I needed. Very very nice feature.
You can go straight to the menu by typing '\\'. If you hace something
in the buffer you can apply functions to it.
