I am having this exact same problem. When I fire up xdm form the
/etc/rc.local, sometimes it will work, and sometimes it won't.
When the xdm screen comes up, I can use all the keys fine, like they
should be, but as soon as I log in, and get my xterm, the # becomes
backspace, and the other key I noticed was that CTRL-C becomes something
else entrely. I would guess that some other keys are screwed up as
well, but I haven't found any.
If I startx from a VC, everything works perfectly. When started from
xdm, everything still works ok, as far as I can tell, except for the
keys.
Anyone else have this problem? Or know what to do about it?
