Yes, you can do it with gcc 2.x like this. I eved had to do this to get
a kernel that would work in my PC. It's pretty straight forward, but
requires some care to get it right. There are so many parameters to set,
and older gcc/binutils versions had their own tricks you had to
circumvert.
