Subject: Out of memory when mke2fs during Installation
Date: 1 May 1993 14:41:56 MDT

Hi there,

My friend has a 386DX33 machine with 4Mega Ram on the machine. He recently
bought a 340 Mg harddisk and want to install the Linux system. We used the
SLS to process the installation. We set up about 140 Mg partition for Linux.
But when we use 'mke2fs /dev/hda2 142624' , we got a message like
'out of memory, killed'. And the mke2fs failed. Then we use mkswap /dev/hda3
10240 to set up a 10 mega swap area, and try mke2fs /dev/hda2 142624 again.
But it still failed.

My guess is that 4mega Ram is not sufficient to handle the situation. But why
I make the swap area still cannot go ahead. Need my friend add the ram or
there is any solution to this? Please Email me (slvch@cc.usu.edu) for your
suggestion. Thank you in advance.
