If you have a 512k Trident 8900C board that is not functioning correctly
with XFree86 1.2, can you please try the following, and report back
your results:
In the Xconfig file, specify
ChipSet "tvga9000"
in the VGA256 section. Then read the README.trident file for
some changes you need to make to your mode timing specifications.
That is, pretend that you've got a TVGA9000 board instead of a TVG8900C
board. I've been looking into why this doesn't work some more. It
looks like the code changes we made should have been 512K vs 1M rather
than 8900C vs 9000. If this proves successful, we will make the appropriate
changes for the next release.
Please send your results to xfree86@physics.su.oz.au, or post a followup
to comp.windows.x.i386unix.
If anyone has a working 512K 8900C board, please tell us that, too.
