If the DAT drive is standard SCSI you shouldn't need any special drivers
you would only need to do a 'mknod' to create the tape device.
this is documented in the installation instructions.
Then use you backup software with that device.
I don't know if the optical disk will need any special drivers or not.
I would just plug it in and try to format it and then mount it just like a
regular HDD.
If it a regular SCSI drive I wouldn't think you could hurt it by doing this.
you may trash the itself if this goes wrong but I would think the odds are
low that you could do any real damage.
If it fails the smoke test I don't want to hear about it.
