Similar problem with 'vi' (elvis). 7A hangs in X whenever I do use the
keyboard repeat to move through the file with the up/down arrow. Sometimes
(actually more often) vi just dies. Mouse -> dead, keyboard -> R.I.P
but the kernel is still alive, i.e. if I wait for the next sync and reset
then the FS is OK!

And: Yes, I have trouble with 'bash' sometimes dieing on me too. So, since
I use 'bash' as my shell, maybe that's where the trouble comes from (wild
guess!).

I am not botherd enuff yet, to do something about it. As I say, the FS is
updated if I wait long enuff.
