Subject: 0.99.7 broke my X setup

I've been running X386mono from the 1.2 distribution on a Packard
Bell 425SX with Oak VGA quite happily until I upgraded to 0.99.7.
With the new kernel the display blanks and nothing else seems to
happen - a reboot appears to be the only way to get control back.
For the moment I've gone back to 0.99.6. Has anyone seen anything
like this, or have any idea what might be causing it?
