I don't know what version of the "old SLS" you had, but I had
SLS from linux 0.99pl2 that I had upgraded to 0.99pl5. I find
the "new SLS" (based on linux 0.99pl6 and Xfree 1.2) less stable:
1. The computer locked up twice while accessing the msdos disk
2. I don't get spurious logouts, but I have had the system ask me
for my login and password, begin to log me in, and then die and
start over by asking me for my login and password again.
3. I get spurious segment violations by gcc.
Note: I think 2 and 3 are manifestations of the same problem. From
what I've read, I gather that the new library isn't fully debugged yet,
and it's causing seg faults.
Some things are nicer:
1. Printing works pretty much out of the box
2. The xlock program has support for shadow passwords now
3. olvwm is supported
4. The lilo that came on the new release worked out of the box
5. Probably more that I can't recall.
However, I think I'd rather be back where I was....
Just my $0.02.
