Subject: Small probs with 99pl6 and XFree 1.2
Date: 14 Mar 1993 19:52:52 GMT

Hi!
I recently installed XFree version 1.2 and Linux 0.99pl6. Everything works
fine, except for a few minor glitches:
1) snddrv05 doesn't compile any more. gcc complains about chrdev_fops not
being defined. Any ideas? I don't really need sound support, I just thought
it would be kinda neat.
2) Terminal logins don't work any more. Whenever I try to login as root from
my VT220 terminal, the system gets as far as "No Mail", then it just hangs
(only the terminal task hangs, everything else works OK). I didn't change my
/etc/inittab or anything, and before upgrading terminal logins worked just
fine.
3) XFree 1.2 supports vt switching. That fact itself is worth the upgrade.
Whenver I switch away from the vt currently running X and then switch back,
the screen isn't restored correctly. The display isn't centered any more
and the color palette ist wierd (blue borders, yellow characters, etc. -
psychedelic!). Oh, for the info: I'm running X with olvwm. But that couldn't
be the problem, could it?
I hope these aren't FAQs, I searched the FAQ files and the appropriate
docs, but didn't come up with a solution.
Could somebody please help me with these buglets?
Apart from these problems, congratulations to those maintaining Linux and
XFree.
  Thanks,
    Daniel
P.S. What's the situation of the documentation project mentioned a few
weeks ago? I'd be very interested in the documents promised. My WAFFLE
expire seems to have eaten up a whole bunch of c.o.l news, so I'm not
really up to date with the development. If any docs are already available,
I'd like to know where to get them via ftp (if they are available via ftp).
