Subject: Anybody using a Samsung 120Mb drive (under linux) ?
Date: Sun, 14 Mar 1993 16:31:37 GMT

Is anybody out there using such a thing? Under heavy activity I get HD timeouts.
To get the drive unstuck, I have to power cycle the machine - the reset button
doesn't fix the problem, the drive remains locked. I am hoping it is the cheap
controller card causing the problem... A friend of mine has the same controller
and drive (I think) and has had a couple of problems, but not as many as mine
(trying to compile the kernel screwed the filesystem in the end... running fsck
was a good way to lock up the drive again...)
If there is a problem with the drive, is there any way of modifying the kernel
so it doesn't jam the drive? (sounds like the old Maxtor problem don't it?)

Config:
i486DX-33, OPTI chipset motherboard
ET4000 video (Mega VGA/1024 - 16.7M colours)
Samsung 120Mb IDE drive (model SHD3062A)
Generic cheap IDE controller
Generic cheap I/O card
3com 3c501 ethernet card

Thanks,
