I own the Maxtor 213 MB IDE drive (7213) and use it as my Linux drive.
I didn't archive the thread on this drive, but as I remember it, the
conclusion was that some early versions of the drive had a problem in
the firmware. All recent versions of the drive have this fixed. I
got mine several months ago and it's been great with Linux. If you
just got yours, you probably don't have a problem.
There's a BBS list posted frequently to comp.os.linux.announce. If
you can't find it somewhere else, e-mail me and I'll send you a copy.
