Subject: [Q]Xconfig for DELL 486/WD90C3x
Date: Tue, 09 Mar 1993 16:47:06 EST

Hello, Mar-9-93

I have SLS 0.99p4 running on my DELL 486/33 and am trying to set X
to come up in the 1024 x 768 graphics mode. The SVGA graphics controller is
on the motherboard and has 1 MB. video RAM and I am using a Dell UltraScan
14c display. I understand that the video chip in use is a Paradise/Western
Digital WD90C31 but I haven't unbolten the power supply to confirm.
        X runs OK in 640 x 480 and 800 x 600 modes using the standard VESA
default modes and:
Modes "640x480" "800x600" "1024x768"
Clocks 25 28 24 40 60.1 60.2 36
However, the 1024 x 768 mode doesn't hold.

I have reason to believe it should be possible to run this system in
1024 x 768 x 256 colour mode since the manual says it will run in this VESA
mode. I have installed the 1024 Windows driver and this seems to run. Also
using VUIMG with VESA driver and CSHOW with Paradise driver, the high res mode
works OK.

I don't have any specs on the chip set. The monitor is specified to
operate with scanning frequencies:
        Horizontal: 30.0 - 60.0 KHz
        Vertical: 50 - 90 Hz

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has successfully gotten the
1024x768x256 mode to work with Linux X .or. who has the WD90C31 specs handy.

                                                ----Thanks----

                                                    Jim
