Subject: questions and problems with networking

Hi folks!

As we get more and more problems with our local NOVELL net I 'll try to convince
the MS-DOG and Mac users to change to unix (Linux). But I have some problems
to do that because they don't want to spend any money :-(.
I have installed an older (what is old, it's 0.99pl2) SLS distribution on a PC
(486, 8MB RAM, 170MB IDE, Diamond SpeedStar +, ne2000) but I have some net probs.
(The kernel is now updated to 0.99pl5 with ne2000 patches).
I can reach every workstation (from and to) in our local net (Iris Indigo &
Apollo). BUT I can't reach ANY host outside our local net (error message:
network not reachable). Perhaps this is due to a configuration error. Neverthe-
less I followed the instructions on the NET-FAQ).
BUT if I try to reach my machine from outside I always get endless error messages
"eth_if: Couldn't allocate a sk_buff of size 137"
and sometimes "eth_if. receiver overrun"
and the machine hangs. Maybe this is also due to a configuration error BUT
it is not tolerable that the whole machine hangs after that!

I have just another problem: for the pc's that couldn't run Linux I got
the NCSA software. The question is, if there is also PD nfs-software for
PC's (and if so, where?)
I alsp need tcp/ip software for our Macs (LC & LC II). Mainly needed for
network printing. Is there any free Mac tcp/ip software out there? If so,
where?

Any helps, hints etc. are greatly appreciated...
