check your chipset
some machines cannot cache more than 16MB
and may actually slow down with more memory

if you can somehow make sure that it doesnt use the extra
until its "needed" then it should be faster than swapping from disk
but...

perhaps a virtual swapdrive, configured to use the non-cacheable areas...
