I don't think you need a 16550 with a 40MHz system. At least I don't, and I
can use taylor at 38400, no problem. Methinks you'd better go over the uucp
installation carefully, and probably the elm one too. Elm 2.4pl21 was
pretty straightforward, as I recall.
