Please *DO* send a more clear description of your laptop--notebook setup.
I wouldn't be very happy recompiling the kernel 5-6 times to get these
things right on a 386SX16 with 5MB of RAM. By the way SLS.99pl2 works
fine for almost two months. X (not 1.2) is OK with the mono server and 3 xterms
with almost no swapping (doing things like vi, man and running small progs.
For compilations I usually close one xterm.
By the way, I read in an X performance doc posted sometime ago about
alternatives to xterm that are less memory consuming (xvt and mterm).
I 've tried to compile the former but the mistakes were to many to
mention (I am new in C). Has anybody had any luck with any of them?
(regarding power management my Amstrad is powering down the HD according to
the DOS setting but I don't know whether the processor is getting into the
sleep mode when no keystrokes are made (like in DOS). The screen blanks
but I haven't check whether this is Linux screenblank or backlit off...
Hope to hear from you soon.
